Public Art Community Engagement
What is public art?
Public Art refers to works of art in any media, which contributes to the identity, understanding, appreciation, and enhancement of public places.
This can include 'landmark' pieces (such as sculptures), but can also include functional elements (such as lighting or seating), temporary commissions (such as exhibitions or festivals), or interior art (such as stained glass, bespoke furniture or paintings).
Why is public art important?
We all want to live in places that mean something to us and that we value. Public art can help with this by:
- creating iconic spaces or objects that can be used to promote an area, generate a sense of pride and local identity.
- promote community engagement through arts activities
- improve the quality of the places we live, creating character
