Council Tax Support Scheme 26/27 Consultation

Each year South Cambridgeshire District Council must decide whether to change the Council Tax Support scheme for working age applicants in its area.

There are no changes for Pension Age applicants as they are part of the national scheme.

This year the Council is deciding whether to change certain aspects of the working age Council Tax Support Scheme.

We are legally required to consult on any proposed changes to the scheme and we’re asking you to take part in this consultation to find out what you think about our proposed changes to the Council's Council Tax Support Scheme, which would start from 1 April 2026. We want to:

  • Change the levels of discount available and change the income levels used to determine the level of support awarded to simplify the scheme (Part 1);
  • Extend the period which an application for support can be backdated (Part 2);
  • Make changes to the level of non-dependant deductions (Part 3);
  • Align the amounts allowed in relation to both Carer's premium and Disability Premium (Part 4); and
  • Use the Universal Credit award notification received from the Department for Work and Pensions as both application and award date for Council Tax Support (Part 5).

Thank you for taking the time to share your views. It should take around 10 minutes to complete this consultation.

If you would like this consultation provided in an alternative style, including as a paper copy, please email engage@scambs.gov.uk.

The existing (tables 1 and 2) and proposed (tables 3 and 4) Council Tax support schemes are available to view below.
